Switching from xorg to Wayland moves very slow

Last month was the delightful news that Ubuntu 21.04 is aiming to use Wayland by default for non-NVIDIA systems on the GNOME desktop rather than the X.Org session.

Phoronix

I want this to be over soon. We should not have to think about if we use xorg or Wayland. I try to use Wayland, but i have to switch to xorg for some things. Maybe it would move faster if Wayland was faster than xorg, but sadly it is not. I believe xrdp have to be fixed. And nvidia is also complicating this for reasons i dont understand. Why must nvidia be so difficult.

Screensharing in Gnome is not like RDP in Windows

It is easy to turn on screensharing in Gnome. You notice that you have to be logged in for it to work. You cant get to the login screen. Red hat have turned on some TLS encryption in Fedora 33. It is hard to find a VNC client for Windows that support that TLS encryption. There is another TLS encryption for VNC to confused things more. The command is “gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.remote-desktop.vnc encryption “[‘none’]”” to turn it off. I got connected and Firefox dont recognize my mouse clicks. It activates the windows but nothing more happens. The mouse cursor is always ibeam.

When Intel says is supports RST on linux it dont mean much

Intel supports RST from kernel 2.6. It did not work for me yesterday. I tried with Fedora 33. Supports means that mdadm can read the volume information. Then mdadm can create raid drives. Looks like it is better to turn it off in linux. I tried windows 10 and it work just like i expected it to do. When installing Windows i could chose the volume i had created in the UEFI settings. I could install some software where i could see information about the RAID drive.

Highpoint RocketRAID 620 is the worst RAID card i have

I tried to use it yesterday. I has been on my shelf for many years. Last time i tried to use it it was bad. It lost connection to the hard drives. To boot from it CSM must be on. 😬 Drivers are not in linux kernel. The latest linux drivers on their web site is for up to kernel v2.6.31. 🙁 I had to put the card back on the shelf. It is useless for me.

I think the snort package in Ubuntu 20.10 is broken

I upgraded my firewall computer today. Something went wrong with the snort configuration. I tried to fix it but i gave up after a while. I did a new installation to start with something that is working and then merge in my config that i had saved. Snort did not work even after a new installation. 😡

Linux have more than one routing table

If you do “ip -6 route” on the command line you see a routing table. I always thought that was the only one. A few days ago i needed to route not only on destination address but also on source address. First it seemed impossible. The routing table dont have anything for source address it only looks at the destination address. I searched on google. I found something called policy based routing. It can do routing on many things. If you do “ip -6 rule” you will see some other routing tables mentioned. You can add a rule with “ip -6 rule add …”. You can add something to a routing table by adding “table tablenumber” after “ip -6 route add …”.
